Over the last half-century, I have witnessed the evolution of American policing from casual bullying to the violence and contempt of an occupying army. It is ironic and sad that the police make such a big deal over demanding respect from the community that they then show no interest in treating with respect.
The very least we can do for our own safety is take their military weapons away from them. Cops have no business having tanks or machine-guns, no matter how much they like the shiny toys or how much the military can write off for giving them away.
