Electoral College

The electoral college was devised because the Founding Fathers, trying for the first time to struggle their way out of monarchies, couldn’t bring themselves to fully trust the opinions of the populace at large. We’ve proven pretty conclusively since then that our opinions are *all* we can trust, and it’s time for this trap-door devised to maintain political power in “traditional” hands to be consigned to the scrap-bin of history, and be replaced by direct popular vote.
